Fishy Day

It's the first day of the year 2007 and life started on a fishy tone. Nope, I don't mean something fishy happened, I just happened to have some decent meals that were centred around fish - which is significant in as much that fish, according to Chinese tradition symbolises luck.

I don't want to go into supersitition here but my first stroke of luck was to discover that Dad is in Hong Kong until the third and he avoided feeling anything from the bomb attacks in Bangkok. Discovering he was away from the danger and the national tragedy set the tone for the rest of the day.

First step of the day was fish ball noodles at Toa Payoh Lorong 5's food court. Lorong 5 is near the industrial part of Toa Payoh and the food is by and large excellent. The fish ball noodles in particular are well known - there's usually a long que of people and they are there for a darn good reason - the food is darn good. Today, Public Holiday and All was no exception.

The Second step was a champagne and cheese session with Luke. Won this huge bottle of champagne two-years ago and left it with Luke for safe keeping as I moved from place-to-place, looking for somewhere to live. Today, we decided that it was time to crack open the bottle and as things would have it, Sean, Luke's oldest son who represents the State of Washington in Taiwan had given his Dad some smoked salmon. The smoked salmon was to die for, as good as what I remember from the days of visiting Sequim and the Pacific North-West. It was good to sit down over good food and excellent champagne, talking about all sorts of things with good company,

Finally, it was dinner in Geylang, Lorong 20. Had fish-soup. Excellent stuff. You can always rely of red-light districts to produce some of the best foods.

Anyway, it is, as Andy Mukherjee says, "The Year of Bond" and this will, I hope be a good year for each and everyone who reads this entry.
